SYNOPSIS:
In 1943, at the height of the war, Martha Liebermann, widow of the great impressionist painter Max Liebermann, is still living in Berlin but scheming to escape abroad and avoid deportation to a concentration camp. Desperate to protect her precious collection of art, including two portraits by Swedish painter Anders Zorn, the 85 year old Liebermann, plays an intriguing cat and mouse game with the local Gestapo commissioner and his henchman. Themes of trust, duplicity, resilence, feminist courage and eduring passion for art are brought to startling life in this entertaining dramatic film based on true events.
