SYNOPSIS: French filmmaker Claude Lanzmann famously criticized Schindler’s List, saying that “fiction is a transgression” and that “any representation of the Holocaust is prohibited.” In this monumental documentary, director Michal Kosakowski explores the tension between Lanzmann’s uncompromising vision and the thousands of fictional Holocaust films produced since 1938. By editing together scenes from more than 3,000 films into a captivating montage, without using narration, Kosakowski invites viewers to reflect on how movies shape our collective memory of unimaginable horrors.
